From April 19-21, 2011 the Lectorates Mechatronica and Serious Game Design at Fontys Eindhoven organized a Gamejam Mechatronics for their students.
Students from Fontys Eindhoven and Eindhovense School collaborated in 6 teams to develop games for the rehabilitation tool Foot Throttle by Ton de Lange.
Some of the goals and challenges:
– training at home
– measurable results
– fun
Theme:
Seduction
I was asked to judge the projects together with:
Ed Albers – Fysiotherapeut
Janienke Sturm– Researcher HCI/Projectcoordinator Serious Game design
Ton de Lange – Biomechanicus/Associate Lector Paramedische Hogeschool
It was lovely to see a couple of familiar faces among the students through earlier Global Game Jam encounters.
The judges were surprised to see the amount of work the students had done in three days for this gamejam and the level of the projects.
Although all of the projects had some clever ideas incorporated into the design, we were most excited about de game by Minion Mechanics.
They had a fun game with the different possibilities of the Rehabilitation tool incorporated and a clear tutorial (with the elderly player in mind).
The most important feature they talked about however was the ability for the physiotherapist to implement tailor made exercises.
