Playpublik Kraków 2014
October 3, 2014 - October 5, 2014
Festival for Playful Public Spaces in Kraków, Poland. Curated by Invisible Playground.
Theme: Momentary States
From the website:
Take a moment and consider your world as a playground. Think of the busy intersection you cross every day and the building you live in. The majestic church or the shady bar you might visit on the weekend. Follow a path from the corner of the web you think only you know about to your town’s public square and back. Go to work, if you can. Talk to a loved one on the phone. Walk from the Yoga studio to your favorite very old museum, then stop by the logistics center that sends you your packages and, finally, jump! All the way to mars (or parliament, or prison).
There’s something happening on every part of the playground, isn’t there?
But are you in on the game? This fall, a new version of Playpublik will take place in Kraków, Poland. Initiated by Goethe-Institut Krakau as part of the project SPIELTRIEB! and curated by Invisible Playground, the festival celebrates, explores, questions – in public, through play – what it means to live together in our shared world. Yes, really: as adults who play.
We don’t know about you, but we are not so sure about public space anymore. What it’s for, what we want from it, where to find it. Same goes for privacy. Who knows the rules and systems that govern how we communicate, commute, work, play, love?
But we do know this: Together we can make new rules and enter different states, at least for a moment. We can feel them, test them, know about them, discuss them. Let’s look at ourselves, each other and the surrounding world from inside them, then decide if we want to throw away or keep them. Anyone can do it, and it’s fun!
A great way to do this is by playing, making, and talking about games. This is why Playpublik consists of three formats: Games, Workshops, and Conversations.
Open Call for projects. Submission Deadline extended to 17 August 2014.
