New Horizons – De Kunst Achter Games (the art behind games)
Exhibition on the mutual influence of game art, contemporary art & pop culture. Part of Next Gen Art Event 2014.
From the website:
By displaying games and other art forms next to each other, the New Horizons exhibition in the Fries Museum is one of the first that really shows how artists from various disciplines inspire each other and how they, sometimes unconsciously, borrow from art history. The impossible mazes from M.C Escher return in games like Echochrome and Monument Valley. An artist like Cory Arcangel transforms classic videogames to abandoned landscapes. In the exhibition we show work of a number of leading studio’s, like Naughty Dog, BioWare, thatgamecompany and DICE. To get in mood, here is a selection of artworks in the exhibition. The New Horizons exhibition is on show from November 21 until March 22 in the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.
