Play:Vienna 2013
August 30, 2013 - September 1, 2013
Play:Vienna is an annual play festival in Austria, turning the city of Vienna into a playground.
From the website:
The Play:Vienna festival 2012 was Austria’s first festival for games in public space. It took place at the Museumsquartier Wien and throughout the whole city on a weekend in September 2012. Over the whole weekend we had 23 local and international artists and game designers running 20 games with over 800 players participating in them. We want to provide an environment for new types of public games, bringing people from different backgrounds together through experiencing new and different kinds of interaction with their environment.
Call for games
Like last year, we are looking for your games to feature at our festival!
What games? Street games, urban games, pervasive games! Anything that is playfully interacting with or in the city.Send us your concepts and game designs, it doesn’t matter whether the duration is five minutes or the whole weekend, whether you can play it on your own, or need hundreds of participants, whether they’re high-tech or low-fi, or whether they’re top secret and pervasive, or big spectacles for everyone to see. The only pre-requisite is that it needs to happen in public space in the city of Vienna.
Last year we had people balance toy turtles on the back of their hands in Turtle Wushu, chase Mr X through the underground network of Vienna in Wien jagt Mr X, find a treasure and defend themselves against the evil Weeping Angels, and smuggle an expensive (or was it a fake?) pearl necklace across the Stephansplatz in The Smugglers Game.
We’re eagerly awaiting your designs! Send them to: conspiracy@streetgames.at. You can also email us, if you have any questions of course.
Deadline: July 5.
Should you need feedback or want to test your ideas, we will hold Game Clinics and workshops in the coming weeks up to the festival where you can improve your designs and test them!
