The European game developer or studio with the most ‘guts’ will receive a Guts & Glory Game Award at the Dutch Game Awards this year. It is the first year this award will be handed out and it replaces the Euro Indie Award from previous editions.
The Euro Indie Award was won last year by 1112 episode by Agharta Studio. Runner ups were The Great Jitters; Pudding Panic by kunst-stoff and Spirits for iPad by Spaces of Play.
Control Magazine, organizer of DGA, figured there are many similar awards already and feel the Euro Indie Award is not as exciting as it could be. The organization searched for ways in which they could make the category a lot more thrilling and attractive. In the end they decided on the “Guts & Glory Game Award“.
The European studio that is most daring in its approach and distinguishes itself by taking on something risky will be the one to take home the award. “Something risky” could mean a lot: taking a business risk, exploring new grounds, creative cross-pollination, etc. The award stimulates out-of-the-box thinking and wants to support this by exposing it to the world.
Closing date for submitting games is September 17, 2012. The winner will be announced during the Control Industry Dinner which hosts the Dutch Game Awards on November 22, 2012 in Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
