Last week the Independent Games Festival announced this year’s finalists.
This year saw a record number of entries, among them more than 20 from Dutch soil! Out of those twenty Dutch games, two of them were picked by the jury and nominated as finalists for the IGF 2012 competition.
Finalist #1: Fingle by Game Oven Studios is a quirky 2-player game on the iPad that engages the players to “explore the intimate touch of each others fingers with Fingle’s two-player puzzles. Break the ice or engage friends to get awkwardly close”. In no way can this be expressed in words, it should definitely be experienced. So download it and try it for yourself! Looking forward to see what happens at GDC when Adriaan & Bojan are going to mess up people’s brains and personal space. The game also got an honorable mention in “Best Mobile Game”.
Finalist #2: Ridiculous Fishing by Vlambeer, is a brilliant little game about casting a line, reeling in fish… and then blasting the fish away. The duo worked together with Zach Gage and Greg Wohlwend to bring the game to iOS. And what a beauty it is.
:::Honorable mention:::
#1. Global Game Jam 2011 game “GlitchHiker‘ was a difficult game to judge, as the game became extinct during the jam itself, taking the theme to heart and into extreme. The judges felt it deserved an honorable mention in the Nuovo Category.
#2. One-man project Proun by Joost van Dongen, didn’t get to be a finalist, but got an honorable mention in the “Excellence in Visual Art”.
:::Remaining:::
Really had hoped for ibb and obb to get a nomination or honorable mention, as the adorable characters deserve some attention. But I’m sure their time will come. And of course would love to see everyone nominated, but.. let’s try again next year!
Good luck everyone!
